Central Australian snakes 'getting fatter'

Snake catchers in Alice Springs say venomous snakes are getting fatter and becoming more active.

Reptile handler Justin Rutherford says he has answered more than 20 call-outs in the past two weeks.

He says the reptiles he has caught, particularly mulga [brown] snakes, have been fat and healthy specimens.

Mr Rutherford says the good rains over summer have helped the snakes get bigger, but people should not be worried.
