Would You Pay to Lose Online Ads?

Read ArticleArticle Source: PC World

A study in AdAge notes that very, very few consumers are willing to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee to remove advertising on their favorite websites.

I've never felt the need to remove ads from the sites I read, but I certainly wouldn't pay a subscription fee to remove them, when I can do that for free with a FireFox add-on (I don't, though). I have given money through memberships and fundraising drives to smaller sites that I read often.

AdAge discovered that only 4 percent of consumers would be "very likely" to pay US$39.99 or $29.99 a year to have advertising removed from their favorite sites. That's less than $4 and $3 per month respectively.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.
