Jimmy Carter and Kofi Annan refused entry visas to Zimbabwe

advertisement

The former United States president Jimmy Carter said today that he and others planning a humanitarian mission in Zimbabwe had been refused entry to the country.

Carter and two other members of The Elders group, the former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan and the human rights advocate Graca Machel, who is married to Nelson Mandela, had planned to assess the country's humanitarian needs as Zimbabweans face disease and hunger while the political crisis occupies its politicians.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's about time that some country refuses to deal with these "do gooder" bozo's who keep sticking their noses into other peoples business.   Jimmy needs to tend his peanuts and the UN needs to be sent packing preferably out of the US.

Mr. Mugabe’s decision to forbid a humanitarian visit by Mr. Carter, former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela’s wife Graca Machel was a measure of the Zimbabwean leader’s disdain for international opinion at a time when deepening hunger, raging hyperinflation and the collapse of health, sanitation and education services have crippled Zimbabwe.

I guess Mugabe is afraid that they might talk some sense into him, and ... he could never stand for that.

There's no chance of talking sense into Mugabe, but there is a chance of getting him over a barrel and demanding concessions for Zimbabweans if talks are arranged, so it's not in his interested as dictator for life to allow that to happen.

, is Zimbabwe YOUR business, for you to decide where others should not put their noses?

I think perhaps that Dave got as far as reading "Jimmy Carter" and his rant reflex kicked in preventing him from reading anything else.
