Tasmania's only floating classroom is marking 50 years on the water.

The 13.5 metre Penghana is named after a West Coast settlement that was destroyed by fire in the late 1800s.

The solid double-ender of celery top pine was built on Hobart's eastern shore and originally used for crayfishing.
