Catholic school gives in over Hell enrolment

advertisement

The father of a Melbourne boy says he will not be enrolling his five-year-old son at a Catholic school after a row over the child's surname.

Max Hell had applied for a prep place at St Peter Apostle Primary School at Hoopers Crossing in Melbourne's west.

His father, Alex, says he was refused because of his surname. The Catholic Education Office says the school was concerned the child would be teased.

The office says it has resolved the dispute, but Max's father, Alex Hell, is refusing to accept the offer of a place at St Peter Apostle Primary School.

He says the school had offered a place to his son, but withdrew it when the family would not use the mother's surname.

The school now says it would welcome the boy but Mr Hell says that will not be happening.
