Venezuela 'to withdraw from IMF'

advertisement

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he wants to pull his country out of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

In a speech to mark 1 May, Mr Chavez said he wanted the move to take effect as soon as possible.

As the country has settled its IMF debt, the withdrawal is largely a symbolic gesture, correspondents say.

President Chavez also announced an almost 20% increase in the minimum monthly wage.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The more countries that push back against these sharks, the better.

Venezuela is in a position to give the IMF the royal salute. Unfortunately, most of the countries that the IMF preys on aren't. They're backed into a corner and can only see the carrot and not the accompanying stick.

Let's all hope they won't suffer any consequences for it, like Sukarno did for example...

Thank You very much for the heads up, you just made my may 1st memorable... :)
I'm listening to "Bella Ciao" all evening, and this news fits perfectly...

The best you can hope for is that the IMF ignore you, you really don't want to be around when they pull the equivalent tantrum of taking their bat and ball and going home.

Ironically, I believe the deaths of the Iraqi people are giving the rest of the suppressed world a chance to breathe. The US is giving in (as is the higher plan), and this is one of the signs for it...
It's not the IMF to be afraid of, but those who invented it...
