
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he wants to pull his country out of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
In a speech to mark 1 May, Mr Chavez said he wanted the move to take effect as soon as possible.
As the country has settled its IMF debt, the withdrawal is largely a symbolic gesture, correspondents say.
President Chavez also announced an almost 20% increase in the minimum monthly wage.

Venezuela is in a position to give the IMF the royal salute. Unfortunately, most of the countries that the IMF preys on aren't. They're backed into a corner and can only see the carrot and not the accompanying stick.
Let's all hope they won't suffer any consequences for it, like Sukarno did for example...

The best you can hope for is that the IMF ignore you, you really don't want to be around when they pull the equivalent tantrum of taking their bat and ball and going home.
Ironically, I believe the deaths of the Iraqi people are giving the rest of the suppressed world a chance to breathe. The US is giving in (as is the higher plan), and this is one of the signs for it...
